Magic Johnson has launched a collection of Non-Fungible Tokens to celebrate his long and glorious career. The digital collection will be available starting June 7 on NBA Top Shot, the official project of NFT of the highest American basketball league.

The playmaker born in 1959 is only the latest athlete to embrace blockchain technology and its applications. The famous name thus lands on a platform that can boast a boundless book of National Basketball Association-themed collectibles. And this is excellent news also for Flow, which acts as the reference chain for the project. As described in the official NBA Top Shot blog, the collection will retrace the highlights of his career, in the form of highlights encased in digital collectibles:
A time capsule into the hallowed halls of NBA history, each Magic Johnson Anthology pack in this drop contains a single guaranteed Magic Johnson Moment™ NFT in either the Legendary or Rare tier. Each of these four Moments took place in seasons when Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA Championship.
Of the 1600 Non Fungible Tokens, 1200 will be sold for $399 each to anyone with a personal score of at least 150,000 on NBA Top Shot; the remaining 400 will be distributed free of charge. The four anthology packs will be “Never Fear, E.J. Is Here”, “Now You See It, Now You Don’t”, “Hocus Pocus Pass”, and “Game. Set. Magic.”.

This is how the platform announced the launch of the collection, on the page dedicated to the Los Angeles Lakers basketball player. Apparently, fans will have the opportunity to live a new experience of digital collectibles, with the official website that has reserved special treatment for Magic Johnson’s NFTs.
It can be expected soon to start seeing other legends such as Larry Bird or even Michael Jordan and Jabbar or the many champions who have contributed to making the NBA perhaps the most popular sports franchise in the world. NBA Top Shot already operates in the blockchain context and uses Flow, the same technology chosen by Instagram to open up to the world of Non-Fungible Tokens and allow users to display their favorite NFTs as a profile picture. An important commercial success that signals that in reality there is also room for specific Layer-2s that are linked to the world of collectibles.
We will see what the next evolutions of this extraordinary project will be, both in terms of links with the NBA and in terms of commercial developments that will undoubtedly derive from the arrival of Facebook Meta in the list of its customers and collaborators.
