Gitopia: Institutional Report

Gitopia: Abbreviated Introduction

The benefits and popularity of code hosting platforms have made them a key component in software development. Consequently, the vast majority of open-source development happens on popular code hosting platforms like GitHub and GitLab. Dependence on these platforms is concerning because they are centralized and the hosted code is vulnerable to being affected by the implemented policies of said platforms. There have already been instances of censorship taking place. For example, GitHub removed the source code repositories for the video download tool YouTube-dl after the Recording Industry Association of America, Inc. filed a DMCA infringement notice.

Gitopia aims to be an alternative to other code collaboration platforms like GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket. Its mission is to create a new paradigm for open-source development and decentralized collaboration.

Gitopia features an application-specific blockchain network that is optimized for decentralized source code collaboration and built using Cosmos SDK framework. It will be interoperable with other blockchains through the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol.

The project’s native token, LORE, offers several utilities to the token holders. The total supply of LORE tokens is finite and is affected by inflation halving occurring every two years.

The project is located in Singapore, where the government exercises caution by seeking to identify the risks involved with digital assets.

The team members of Gitopia have a strong technical background and some have already worked in the blockchain industry. Besides, Gitopia is also backed by investors.

As of now, the project is operating on a Testnet. The currently available roadmap is quite limited and no launch date for the mainnet launch could be identified.
